My Biography as a Composer

I studied composition under Nigel Osborne, Louis Andriessen, James Macmillan, Edward Harper, Kenneth Leighton, Peter Nelson, Gilius van Bergijk and Clarence Barlowe. I obtained my undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral  degrees (also see here) from Edinburgh University, The Royal Hague Conservatory and the Hague Institute of Sonology. I am also a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and an Associate of the London College of Music. As a composer, I have been the recipient of the Tovey Memorial Prize, (University of Edinburgh), Rennie Moncrieff Trophy, (Edinburgh Competition Festival) and the Bucher-Fraser Scholarship. (2013) Tribute to Mr King for organ (with bonus track) [album, CD]. Revelation Kollektiv Records: UK.

This SAC (Scottish Arts Council)-commissioned piece was written in response to the 1997 Home Secretary, Jack Straw’s Public Inquiry into the Stephen Lawrence murder and invokes the questioning shadow of Rev King’s Dream. Premiered by the renowned organist, Michael Bonaventure in the Edinburgh Festival.

An ACE (Arts Council England)-commissioned song performed live with members of the Halle Orchestra, Frances Lynch and members of Electric Voice Theatre, Live electronics (Guillaume DuJat des Allimes), MC Hypes and of course Dr Rachel Swindells and her amazing gamelan orchestra.
